Making documentary films is a way to realise my longing for life in the countryside. When I approach the farmers and fishermen in my films, I wish to be a part of their lives. However, under the process of modernisation and development, the environment gradually loses its vitality, and these films turn into its last memories. Whilst filming the subject matter, a feeling starts to emerge in my mind that it doesn't matter if they are farmers on the Guandu Plain, fishermen upon the Tamsui River or horseshoe crabs in Kinmen, they're all disappearing under the expansion of urbanisation. The act of documenting is also an expression of my reluctance of being parted from them.
