Gravity, movement Heads to Cannes Docs for Project Presentation This Week!

The 2025 Marché du Film – Cannes Docs will take place from May 15 to 20. Taiwan Docs, led by the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI), is once again collaborating with In-Docs and Docs by the Sea to bring the Taiwanese documentary project Gravity, movement to the Docs by the Sea Showcase at Cannes Docs.

Gravity, movement, directed by Jessica Wan-Yu LIN and produced by Tze-Lan CHO, follows the daily life and performance practices of theatre artist CHENG Chih-Chung, who contracted polio in childhood and lives with physical disabilities. The film offers an intimate look at how the artist gradually constructs his identity and challenges societal perceptions. The project made its international debut at Docs by the Sea last year, where it received enthusiastic praise and was honored with the DMZ Docs Award.

Each year, Cannes Docs invites eight international partners to present curated showcases, each featuring four documentary projects. Docs by the Sea, known for its dedication to supporting independent Asian documentaries, has been invited for the third consecutive year and has once again selected a Taiwanese project for its lineup. Previous Taiwanese selections at Cannes Docs included Island of the Winds by director HSU Ya-ting and The Songs from Within by director Elvis A-Liang LU, the former of which won the top pitching award that year.

Taiwan Docs continues to cultivate strong ties with the global documentary community, actively promoting Taiwanese documentaries internationally and fostering talent development through diverse collaborations. Its  mission is to support local filmmakers in stepping onto the international stage, building networks, and engaging with the global industry.
