Synopsis

Bird-window collisions occur when birds flying into buildings or glass windows at high speeds since they fail to perceive and identify them. Such collisions lead to avian injuries or fatalities. The documentary follows two graduate students, Hsieh Chi-heng and Kan Chia-yun, gradually archiving cases of bird-window collisions and collecting the remains of birds. Their humble actions demonstrate respect for life.

Director Statement

Chi-heng's life revolves around bird corpses. She rushes to the site of bird-window collisions to collect the bodies, retrieves them from bird rescue centers' freezers, rummages through trash cans to find those being thrown away, and fights with stray cats to rescue the corpses they've taken as toys. Even when she picks up a package from the convenience store, it still contains bird corpses. When she takes the MRT, she still carries an ice bucket with bird corpses. Window-stricken birds can't speak, but they're evidence of bird-window collisions, which Chi-heng desperately wants people to acknowledge. Accompanied by bird corpses, Chi-heng is the most vibrant person I've ever met. It's been an honor for me to have the chance to document bird-window collisions, thanks to Chi-heng and Chia-yun, and thanks to the birds.
