Director Statement
This documentary aims to document the city of Hong Kong through “the portrait of people” approach, with a style akin to a descriptive essay. Hong Kong is the main character of the film. Although the city itself is inanimate, the people and events within bring life to it… So what do we see in Hong Kong now?
The film is set on July 1, 2022, marking the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's handover. On this day, the newly appointed Chief Executive takes office, and the government holds various celebrations at different locations. Xi Jinping also makes a special visit to Hong Kong on this anniversary. At the same time, Typhoon Chaba strikes Hong Kong, bringing strong winds and heavy rain, serving as a metaphor for the city being in the midst of a stormy low-pressure system. This is the first time that Hong Kong has encountered a typhoon on July 1st, as if fate is making a poignant connection.
