Underground Days
Synopsis
Amid Taipei's rapid urbanization, some elderly people live alone in dim underground dwellings, struggling with poverty, residential insecurity, and aging. Yet, a glimmer of aspiration still shines within their hearts.
In Taipei's bustling Neihu District, elderly residents in underground dwellings live simple and routine lives amidst housing crises. One is a devout believer learning to write for her faith, while another runs errands for the basement dwellers with a youthful heart. An alcoholic diligently cleans the park, when a hopeful lottery player dreams of a better life. One day, while they remain wishing for love and a return to rural life, a tragic gas-induced suicide alarms them of their fragile existence.
