Synopsis
In a village on the Quan Ma River in Upper Burma, Old Hong and Lady Hong welcomes their first child into the world. This makes Old Hong start to think about the future. He ponders whether he should continue following in his father’s steps as a shepherd or move his new family away from the Quan Ma River.
Director Statement
I met Old Hong when I was a student. He was from the Quan Ma River region, a famous opium-poppy growing area that had fallen on hard times since the ban on poppy cultivation. Most of his fellow villagers had chosen to leave and make their lives elsewhere, so I decided to pay him a visit -- to find out why he had decided to stay.
