Synopsis
In December 1941, the Pacific War broke out. Hundreds of Taiwanese were recruited to join the war. When the war ended, these Taiwanese soldiers were sent to court as prisoners of war and faced identity crisis. Heat Sun intends to record the lives of these soldiers. Through conversations and visual images, the film reveals the issues surrounding humanity and war.

Director Statement
" Taiwan has been ruled by different governments. People in Taiwan were oppressed and mistreated, especially those drafted by the Japanese government during the end of second World War for the war in the Pacific Ocean. Many Taiwanese men were killed during the war or became prisoners of war. Their sad fates are unknown to others. I first picked up the camera after the devastating earthquake in 1999 where I met so many victims who showed great vitality despite the suffering. I hope by documenting the lives of these former soldiers, the people of this island would understand a bit more of what really happened back then." - Chen Chih-Ho
