Synopsis
Mount Alishan is the most well known tourist attraction in Taiwan. The Tsou indigenous people living in Alishan area have been strongly influenced by outside cultures and religions, as by modernization. Today, one hundred years after the establishment of Japanese colonial rule, Tsou people are facing the dilemma of either totally embracing tourism and modernization or trying to keep intact their traditional culture and passing it on to younger generations. This film is a record of the philosophy and work of two chiefs from two Tsou main settlements faced with this dilemma.
