Synopsis
Most residents of Hsinchu are familiar with the name "Corner Park," but the place itself remains a bit of a mystery. The park is not very big, yet so many things go on there that it always seems to be in a bit of a mess. Old folks, homeless people, and street vendors combine to create a never-ending hubbub of activity. A lot of veterans from China's civil war of 50 years ago congregate in Corner Park for tea and conversation every day. A woman sells tea at an outdoor stall in the park where she set up business after her marriage ended in divorce. Somehow, the park has become the spot where transient life gather.

Director Statement
Most people in Taiwan are familiar with the situation of army veterans and what they have been through. This film is therefore not about how they came to Taiwan, or what they have experienced in the military, or even what their political inclinations are. Instead, I've chosen to focus on an issue that many veterans throughout Taiwan face. The issue is who will honor these men, most of whom are childless, after they die? It is a difficult dilemma, for the task of honoring the departed falls upon one's own children. In Chinese society, the question "who will burn incense in my memory?" carries the same emotional impact that a Westerner might feel pondering "what will become of me after I die?" The family line must be continued. This film tells the story of how these men are dealing with the issue.
