Synopsis

Three stories of three families victimized by the same disaster that devastated the town of shi-Zse. On a rainy wind-swept day, their homes in the Lincoln Mansion were washed away, taking away the lives of their relatives. This documentary follows the process of how the victims organize themselves to claim for compensation, how their actions became a part of a larger social movement, and how the families express the wishes to rebuild their homes. Sobbing land documents the turmoil wrought by the collapse of an unlawful housing development project on a hillside in shi-Zse. A typhoon-triggered mudslide demolished the hillside community of Lincoln Mansion. The victims, people who moved to suburban Taipei, lost family members and their homes. The documentary shows the strengths that these families have regained since the traumatic experience. and how they face each other's distinct but equally saddening stories. ln a process woven in blood and tears. a process full of vulnerability, lamentation and resentment, self-examination and forgiveness, the victims find comfort and wisdom to start over. This film is "home video" made by victims/residents of the Lincoln Mansion the documentarians hope to preserve an accurate image of the tragedy from a local perspective, and to encourage the public to think about the relation between people and the land.
