Synopsis
Black is not a colour, and milkfish is not a fish.
The cart-pushing old man is simply pushing, not heading in any direction. The camera-man is simply shooting, capturing images appearing in the eye.
There are no avant-garde aesthetics of Vidov, and nothing is as clear as Riefenstein's intentions. Since I have a camera with me, I then slowly pick up the scenery of life’s journey. It takes one to bend over and pick a grain of wheat up off the ground. It takes me to carry a camera around Taiwan and pick up the glamorous light of the night.
Director Statement
Shooting night scenes used to be something out of reach. I did not include any night scenes in my 2015 film “Cloud Country”; however, I placed the thought of filming at night in the corner of my heart, patiently waiting for it to come to life some day.
