Synopsis
The title of the film, “The Sea Breeze”, is about the strong winds flowing from sea to the land. Also, it reflects the living style of people who live in Da-chih village. Over the labor, activities and conversations between the villagers, we can observe the relations between people and the natural environment. The film tries to illustrate the feelings of changing and remaining with long takes.
Besides, the ecology and evolution of the old abandoned houses present the trace and texture of time and space, people and memories. Lifeless as they seem to be, they implies great power.
Director Statement
This documentary is my first earnest film. It originates from my departure from my hometown for college and the few opportunities of going home. I found a lot of differences from my memories about this village, Da-chih, where I grew up. Therefore, I want to take advantage of the techniques I have learned from school, recording the connections between me, the village and the people through the film. Furthermore, the use of long takes provides me the opportunity to find a steady rather than an alienated way to interact with what I film. Lastly, this documentary made me recognize my hometown more, leaving me joyous and glorious recording experiences. “The Sea Breeze” gives me the feeling that I’m full of strength; I indulge myself in it, being fascinated by it.
