LIAO Ching-yao started making films when he was at university. In recent years, he mainly works as cinematographer and won several Golden Bell nominations for Best Cinematography. The films, on which he worked as the director of photography included Days We Stared at the Sun, The Walkers, and Wawa No Cidal. Baseball Boys that LIAO co-directed with SHEN Ke-shang won the Grand Prize in Taiwanese Competition at 2008 Taiwan International Documentary Festival.
